Telling Your Story | Sharing the Journey Behind Success

At Innovate Suffolk, we believe the story behind the success is as important as the achievement itself. As part of your involvement, you’ll have the chance to share more about your personal journey not just to promote your work, but to inspire the next generation of thinkers, makers, and doers in Suffolk.

Your story matters. Why? Because for many young people, seeing real-world examples of how others got where they are is the spark that unlocks their own potential. And we know that no two journeys look the same.

Here are the three areas we encourage you to share

About The Speaker

Your Educational Journey — Traditional or Not

We want to know how education played a part in your story, whether you followed the ‘prescribed’ route or found your own path entirely. Maybe school worked for you. Maybe it didn’t. Perhaps you studied something completely unrelated to what you do now. Whatever the route, we’re here to celebrate it honestly, because young people deserve to hear that success isn’t always linear.

  • Did you always know what you wanted to do?

  • Did school/college/university help—or did you learn your skills elsewhere?

  • What advice would you give to young people unsure of what’s next?

Finding Focus — The Specialist Journey

For those who did always know or who found a passion along the way, this is your chance to share how you discovered your specialism, and what that journey involved. What subjects sparked your interest? Did you go to university or take formal training? This is a space to demystify what it looks like to build expertise.

  • How did you discover your area of interest?

  • What should young people in Suffolk be thinking about if they’re interested in your field?

  • Any useful resources, courses, or organisations you’d recommend?

Lessons from the World of Work

Whatever route you took to get here, tell us about the working world. Did you start your own business? Switch careers? Climb through a particular industry? We want to hear about the reality of your working life, including the lessons you’ve learned, challenges you faced, and what kept you going.

These real insights help paint a fuller picture for others considering their next steps.

  • What’s one lesson do you wish you’d learned about earlier?

  • Have you changed career paths? Why, and how did you do it?

  • How has your role or industry changed over time?
